Beat Crazy: Tenderloin After School Program SF

In 2009, Project Ahimsa funded an innovative global percussion workshop series at the Tenderloin After School Program, part of the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) of San Francisco. The project was envisioned by long-time Project Ahimsa supporter Ranjan Dey (New Delhi Indian Restaurant) and David Williamson (French American School) who both wanted to make a direct impact in the community in which they live and work. Over the course of the entire year, over 75 children who come to the Tenderloin After School Program were immersed in Indian, Brazilian, Guatemalan, African and Street drumming facilitated by some of the best percussionists in their fields. Project Ahimsa supported the program with a year-long grant, funding each workshop and providing the children with drums and equipment to play on.
